How the site makes money, and how each build and email says so.
Last updated Nov 3, 2026.
Three kinds of connection
Affiliate. The site earns a commission if you buy through a link, at no extra cost to you. A build with affiliate links says under its title: "This build has affiliate links. Rooting Home earns a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you." Each such link says "Affiliate link" beside it.
Paid promotion. A brand or creator paid the site to feature something. The build says under its title who paid and for what, and each paid link says "Paid link" beside it. A paid build is also marked "Sponsored" in the list of builds and in the feed.
Unpaid promotion. No money, but a connection: a free product, early access, a trip, or a personal or business tie. The build says under its title what was given, and that the brand did not pay for the build or review it first.
A build with none of these says nothing. Every label is in plain words, the same size as the text, never only an icon, a hashtag, or something that shows on hover. The newsletter carries the same labels at the top of each part they apply to, and a newsletter that is wholly paid for says "Sponsored" in its subject.
Affiliate programmes
The site is not in any affiliate programme yet. When it joins one, it is listed here with the wording that programme requires.
Where links go
Every link goes straight to where it says. Nothing redirects through the site or a link shortener, so you can see where a link goes before you follow it.
Opinions
Reviews and opinions are the site's own. A brand never approves a build before it goes up, unless the build says otherwise.
Featuring someone's video is not an endorsement of the site by its creator, and the creator is not paid by the site, unless the build says so. If a featured video is itself a paid promotion, the creator turns on the platform's paid partnership label, and the build says so too.
How builds are made
Each build is written around one or more videos from YouTube or TikTok, shown in the platforms' own players. The page adds a summary, the useful parts written out, short credited quotes from other sources, and where to go next. Videos are never downloaded or re-hosted.
